Had a great time today playing kickball and dodgeball with veterans and their families. This was a kick off event for the Richland County Veterans Coalition. The coalition is made up of veterans groups like Team RWB South Carolina and SVA at USC. More groups are joining to have a great turn out for a dodgeball league to be created this summer. We want to thank the Richland County Recreation Commission for reaching out to us and for wanting to make it happen. If you are in the Midlands and are interested in being a part of this please check out this website richlandcountyrecreation.com/programs/adaptive-recreation where you will be able to register soon! #RCVC #EagleUP #GetintheFight #UofSCVets ... This morning at the Gervais Street Bridge was the launch of the 175 Mile PTSD River Challenge. Several veterans will paddle from Columbia, SC to The Citadel in Charleston, SC to bring awareness about PTSD. Go to www.ptsdchallenge.org/ for more information about the event.
Our race partners this year, Hidden Wounds represented by John Moock and Steven Diaz and Team RWB South Carolina represented by Omar Armstrong, were there to show support and participate.
Good luck to all the paddlers on their 8 day journey! (3 photos) ... See MoreSee Less
If you've noticed more and more attention has been put on Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and it's correlation with PTS. Studies show there is an increase of PTS symptoms with veterans who have been exposed to explosions. Those numbers are extremely high considering the weapon of choice is the IED in our current wars. Troops are quickly to dismiss the effects of a blast if they're no signs of a psychical injury. Luckily some troops are pulled aside after an explosion to check for signs of concussions which we now know can lead to long term brain damage. Know the signs and seek treatment as they can lessen symptoms. #GetintheFight #BreaktheStigma ... See MoreSee Less
